Bedstone College

b and w bedstoneBedstone is a fully co-educational, independent, boarding and day school with a strong family atmosphere, catering for young people between the ages of 8-19 through both the junior and senior schools.

Set in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ in the heart of the Shropshire countryside and bordering Herefordshire and Powys the school is far from the distracting influences of urban life yet within easy reach of major cities and airports. The famous and beautiful ancient market town of Ludlow is 12 just miles away and Hereford and Shrewsbury can be reached by train in just 25 minutes.

Whilst non-selective, Bedstone is passionate about fulfilling a child’s potential in whatever sphere that potential may lie. The results, whether academic, musical, sporting or creative attest to the school’s success in achieving that aim.

Activities

Our reputation for sporting success, our music school with its professional  rehearsal pods and recording studio, our fitness and dance suites and sporting facilities, our outstanding design technology area and our art studios all tell of the desire to educate beyond the purely academic where we already enjoy so much success.  The weekly activities which range from horse riding and mountain biking, to chess and drama, or chamber choir and ceramics, are all part of a diverse range of opportunities which enable our young people to find those areas where their interests and talents lie, where their expertise can flourish and their confidence can grow.

Pastoral Care

The one thing that matters to any parent is that their children are cared for and we can do no better than quote a parent whose four children have been here over a period of ten years:  “The pastoral care at Bedstone is unbelievably good”.

For those few with dyslexic or other learning difficulties, Bedstone enjoys a renowned learning support department whose Head of Learning Support was voted “SENCO of the year 2016” at the Dyslexia Awards.   The College also enjoys a successful EAL department for those who are seeking to improve their additional language skills.

Academic life

Academic life is at the heart of every school and Bedstone offers a wide selection of GCSE, AS and A level courses.  Over the last ten years an average of 93% of sixth formers go on to university with 70% going to their first choice university.
